Fellowship Editor/Reporter

New Posted 18 December 2023 | Remote | The Chronicle of Philanthropy

Is your local news organization ready to learn from experts how to report and write powerful stories about the multibillion dollar philanthropy sector that touches thousands of readers in your community?

The Philanthropy & Nonprofit Accountability Fellowship is accepting applications from U.S. news organizations, with preference given to local or regional reporting teams. The fellowship is directed by the Chronicle of Philanthropy, a nonprofit news organization that covers nonprofits, foundations, and others involved in advancing the social good.

The Chronicle is committed to helping local news teams access the tools and training they need during the fellowship and over the long haul to better inform and engage their audiences on topics as varied as the arts, climate, housing and health. We understand and value the vital role that local news organizations play in the country’s evolving news ecosystem.

Fellowship applications are open through Jan. 8, 2024. The fellowships will run from March 1, 2024 to February 29, 2025. This is a non-residential fellowship so you will work from your local community.

Each of the four teams selected will get an annual stipend of $30,000, individual coaching from Chronicle editors and reporters (including our founding editor,) skill-focused virtual training sessions with journalism and philanthropy experts, including editors and reporters fromThe Associated Press, and the opportunity to learn from other local journalists who are also writing about the nonprofits, foundations and charities in their communities.

Between March 2024 and February 2025, the news organizations (at least one editor and one reporter at each) will write, report, and publish at least four longform stories or two enterprise projects that explore or examine a topic related to philanthropy and the social sector.
