The Dallas Morning News is seeking a general assignments local government reporter. We are looking for candidates eager to join a prize-winning newspaper, and a reporting team, that consistently produces groundbreaking journalism aimed at a smart, demanding audience. The reporter will be part of the Dallas hub and will cover breaking news, spot stories and enterprise about politics and government agencies in a dynamic, diverse and booming region. Dallas County is home to about 2.6 million residents, and its government entities and cities handle billions in taxpayer dollars. Those agencies' decision affect the daily lives of people: how they get to work, where they work, whether they work, where they live, what kind of life they live, how safe they feel, and how their children are raised and educated. This job will require a high metabolism for producing stories, a collaborative nature and an ability to write with depth and authority. Flexibility is key; possible coverage areas could include zoning cases, political disputes, lawsuits, voting rights and elections, political campaigns, redistricting, criminal justice concerns and interesting public officials.
