The Guardian US seeks an experienced newsroom leader, manager and team builder to support best in class journalism through strategic planning and investment in the editorial department and its people. Working closely with the US editor, the managing editor will ensure the smooth running of news operations across a wide range of functions, from staffing and budget planning to standards, staff wellbeing and newsroom resources. This position will oversee the US editorial budget, liaising with finance leads in the US and the UK, as well as section editors across the editorial department, to ensure our teams have the tools and resources they need. The managing editor is a key voice in maintaining and developing an inclusive newsroom culture through relationship building, staff recruitment, development and training, working to adjust our approach and policies as we continue to grow and diversify our team and respond to developments such as hybrid office-remote working. This key part of the role involves ongoing scrutiny of all our processes to ensure we are doing all we can to meet our goals to become a more equitable news organisation where power is shared more equally.
