Reporter, Breaking News

New Posted 24 October 2023 | Washington, DC | The Hill

The Hill, a division of Nexstar Media Group, is looking for a journalist who prizes urgency to join our growing team as a breaking news reporter.

The best applicant will show an ability to write clean, concise copy on a tight deadline where every minute counts in beating the competition. An intense interest in politics and an ability to recognize news quickly will go a long way in the job. As with any breaking news role, this job includes weekend and night hours.

Candidates within the Washington, D.C., metro area are preferred, but this can be a remote, work-from-home position.

About the role: The Hill’s breaking news reporter will work as part of a team of journalists who cover D.C. newsmakers, policy decisions and key national news items through quick updates.
Skills and qualifications: A degree in journalism or related field is required, and previous reporting experience in a metro or national media environment is preferred. Ideal candidates will have experience in a fast-paced news environment, but we’ll look at recent college graduates who bring an exemplary track record of deadline performance and great clips. Candidates should have good instincts for understanding what readers want and be able to produce error-free, clean journalism on a tight timetable. Basic familiarity with Google Trends, SEO skills and real-time analytics are a plus.

Completing these steps will ensure that you receive the highest consideration.

Compensation ranges from $20.00-$25.00 per hour + commensurate with experience and skill level.

Benefits include medical, dental, vision, Life Insurance, and 401K with company match.
