Executive Editor

The Kansas City Beacon seeks a forward-thinking Executive Editor to lead its community-centered newsroom. The Beacon has significant financial backing from local and national funders, including the American Journalism Project and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. We provide Kansans and Missourians with the local news they deserve. The successful candidate is an experienced newsroom leader with a passion for local journalism and a track record of building and managing teams that produce impactful stories with a strong perspective on equitable, audience-driven journalism. You’ll be at the forefront of a movement to make local news a foundational part of civic life in the Kansas City metro by enabling the kind of journalism that holds power to account while being accountable to the communities we serve. You will work in close partnership with The Beacon’s Founder & Publisher, Kelsey Ryan, who leads editorial, product and audience strategy for the network.
