China Reporter, Global News

The Messenger is looking for a U.S.-based China reporter. Someone with the experience and versatility needed to report and write on a range of political, security, and economic issues involving China and its relationship with the United States. The ideal candidate will have spent time in China and reported and written about the country.

Responsibilities:

Report and write stories about China that range from fast-turn pieces about breaking news; deeper analysis of major news; and longer enterprise stories as well.
Write stories that are engaging, accurate and informative.
Monitor news wires, social media, and other sources to identify high-impact stories and trends that are relevant to our audience.
Pitch story ideas and work with editors and other members of the editorial team to develop new angles and angles to existing stories.
Publish and promote content on social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
Ensure that all content is optimized for SEO and social media.
Collaborate with other departments, such as design and development, to ensure that all content is visually appealing, user-friendly, and optimized for different platforms.
The China reporter will report to the Global Editor, and on occasion be asked to file on other major news from around the world.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree
3-25 years of experience as a reporter, content curator, or related role within a news organization.
Knowledge and experience - either through work or educational experience - of current issues and affairs in China.
Strong writing skills and the ability to produce accurate, engaging, and informative news stories.
Strong news judgment and the ability to identify stories and trends that are relevant to our audience.
Work or educational experience in China a plus.
Knowledge of Mandarin a plus.
Sourcing in the National Security Council, State Department or relevant oversight committees on Capitol Hill a plus.
Familiarity with social media platforms and best practices for content promotion.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of AP style and other editorial guidelines.
Familiarity with different CMS and editorial tools.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

**Salary Range: $85,00- 100,000**
