Title
Culture Correspondent
Details
The Culture Desk seeks a domestic correspondent to cover the cultural institutions of California and the West Coast, home to some of the most vibrant culture in the nation.

With the expansion of the LA county museum, the opening of the Broad, the rise in prominence of the LA philharmonic and other events, the West Coast is experiencing a cultural renaissance. We need an experienced correspondent to cover the cultural institutions of the West Coast.

Even before the pandemic hit, there were questions about whether there was enough philanthropic support to keep all these institutions afloat, and whether the region’s new tech millionaires could be persuaded to support the arts. Now things are even more uncertain. Taken together, the beat should be a feast for a reporter with experience in both enterprise and breaking news.

This domestic correspondent will apply relevant expertise and experience to pursue stories on cultural institutions of California and the West Coast, and work in consultation with Culture editors on story ideas. The successful candidate will be expected to identify emerging trends of cultural significance on the West Coast and write/report about them. Successful applicants will have experience writing about culture, and a demonstrated ability to explain the significance of cultural trends to the reader in a clear concise manner.
