The New York Times’s mission is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. This goal informs all our journalism, from our rigorous reporting and ethical standards to the ways we display and promote our work on all our platforms. But to succeed in our mission, we also need to do everything we can to continue to deepen our audience’s trust in our journalism, no matter where it is encountered. Much of this work will occur naturally as we pursue journalistic excellence on a daily basis -- in the coverage decisions that we make, as well as in our choices in sourcing, reporting, writing, editing, visuals, framing and so much more. Still, we are also interested in exploring whether there is more that we can do to help highlight our values through the story forms that we use, the products we build, and the ways that we talk about our journalism as it travels around the internet. We are seeking editors to work on a new cross-functional team — made up of colleagues from the newsroom, product, design, research and engineering — that will improve the ways that our platforms address these issues. These editors will join our expanded Standards team.
