Justice Department Correspondent

New Posted 26 January 2022 | Washington, DC | The New York Times

The New York Times is looking for a correspondent for its Washington bureau to lead coverage of the Justice Department. On any given day, this beat is at the center of stories on the Jan. 6 committee, threats to American democracy, mass shootings, major policy developments on civil rights, terrorist plots and more. But it is also rich with enterprise potential about drugs, guns, violent crime, prisons, terrorism and national security. We are looking for someone with aggressive instincts who will keep The Times ahead on spot news as it unfolds and deliver enterprise that surprises and enlightens our readers. To that end, experience covering law enforcement is valuable, though not essential. We are more interested in seeing a proven ability to develop hard-to-crack sources, recognize newsworthy developments and write stories with authority and sweep that set the agenda on the beat. This job is also integral to The Times' national security coverage, and a willingness to work collaboratively is a must.
