Opinion Editorial Assistant, Bilingual (Spanish and English)
The Opinion department of The New York Times is seeking an Editorial Assistant.  The job is ever-changing, but the primary duties involve research, fact-checking and helping review unsolicited submissions and pitches that arrive each week from writers around the world. Duties will depend on the daily needs of the department and might also include work on social media, newsletters, clerical duties and production tasks. This position will report to the Op-Ed editor.

The editorial assistant must be open to diverse points of view; have a sharp eye for detail; a strong sense of fresh arguments and good writing; superb research skills; a devotion to the highest standards of accuracy, precision and verification; ability to dive into unfamiliar material on deadline; discretion in handling sensitive editorial material; and a strong interest in opinion journalism. This assistant should be willing to work with many different writers and editors. Collegiality and diplomacy are essential. Ideally candidates will have two years of experience in journalism, editing and digital media.

The editorial assistant will also spend one-third of their time supporting NYT Opinion’s coverage of Latin America and the Spanish-speaking world, both in English and for NYT en Español, including helping coordinate and edit El Times newsletter. Applicants must have proficient knowledge of Latin American and Spanish writers, media and news organizations as well as fluency in English and Spanish.
