The National desk is seeking a senior staff editor to take on the critical role of day editor, a job that requires strength in all stages of the editing process, experience working both independently and collaboratively, calm under pressure, and the confidence to set priorities in a fast-paced breaking news environment. The most important quality: good judgment. Working from the early hours in New York, the day editor plays a central role in shaping the National report, helping to identify and drive the most important stories of the day. The role requires a knack for spotting and elevating local news from across America for a broader audience, and a strong sense of what can make a powerful national story for The Times. The day editor works with colleagues from across the newsroom on all aspects of a story as well as live coverage, including visuals, audience, alerts, and homepage and print display. This is a great job for someone who will thrive at the heart of one of The Times’s news desks.
