Fellowship -- International Reporter

New Posted 19 October 2022 | London, United Kingdom | The New York Times

Join the 2023 New York Times Fellowship class as a reporter on the International desk in London. Note that applicants from around the world are welcome to apply, but this fellowship is contingent upon work eligibility in the United Kingdom. The Times will not sponsor visas for this position, and candidates who do not meet the employment criteria at the time of their application will not be considered. For questions about U.K. visas and to review your options, click here. The International desk reporting fellow will be based in The New York Times’s London office, which is home to a vibrant and close-knit team. Your colleagues will be some of the best editors and reporters in the world. You’ll work closely with the head of the Europe operation and a veteran assignment editor, both of whom will support and direct your work. Your immediate peer group will be the London newsroom’s growing breaking news team. You’ll also be closely connected to the U.S.-based fellows, who regularly meet to share and learn from one another. The International fellowship is an opportunity for a journalist to build on the range of skills needed to be a foreign correspondent. In the course of the year, you will help cover breaking news in the United Kingdom and Europe. You will work closely with our London news operation to contribute to live coverage. And depending on your interests and experience, we’ll work with you to create a body of work around a line of coverage. The London newsroom is the training ground for international reporting. Our editors will guide and support you in strengthening your reporting, storytelling and breaking news skills. This program is for early-career journalists. Applicants with more than five years of full-time, professional journalism experience beyond school will not be considered. The most competitive candidates will be college graduates or postgraduates or career pivoters of any age who have had multiple news internships or equivalent news experience that demonstrates a strong background in international reporting. Candidates should upload a résumé, cover letter and five clips, packaged in that order and uploaded as one single .pdf or .doc file that is under 5 MB in size. Please include the full text of your clips, not just the links. The application will prompt you when to upload your materials. Applications that fail to include any of these materials or follow these instructions will not be considered. Applicants may apply to only one fellowship position per year. For instance, if you apply as an international reporting fellow, you should not apply for any other positions in the fellowship. Duplicate resumes will be discarded.
