The Times Graphics team is looking for a creative and versatile 3D specialist who can build, animate, render and style models for breaking news, enterprise and investigative projects. 3D modeling has been the foundation of many high-profile visual stories in recent years, including a look at what the Tulsa massacre destroyed, how a bomb came together in Beirut, why the Surfside condo collapsed, the risks of flying during the pandemic and many more. Working closely with fellow members of the Graphics team and reporters across the newsroom, this graphics editor will play an important role in helping shape visual reconstructions and investigations, and stories that rely on spatial analysis or provide immersive experiences for readers. Attention to detail and precision are essential for this job. You will be expected to pore over, analyze and interpret detailed construction plans, engineering reports, photos and videos to create and build accurate 3D models from scratch. The ideal candidate will understand how to highlight and emphasize details in the model that are most important and relevant to the story. You will optimize and execute camera movements and choreograph 3D scenes on deadline. You will composite, stylize and add polish to finished renders. A background in news graphics, engineering, architecture or forensic reconstruction is preferred.
