If there was ever any doubt about the critical importance of the global health beat, the coronavirus pandemic has laid it to rest. The Times’ health and science desk is deeply engaged in reporting widely on an array of global health issues. And we are now looking for a reporter to join our team, with a primary focus on global heath, deepening our coverage of the pandemic and writing news, narrative and enterprise stories on a broad range of topics once we finally get beyond it. Reporters seeking the position should have a voracious curiosity about infectious disease crises we haven’t yet imagined and the health inequities that lead to millions of needless deaths and immeasurable hardship. They should also be eager to cultivate a broad range of sources in science and public health and to dig into the institutions critical to these challenges; to travel wherever the stories take them; and to work collaboratively with colleagues. Experience in covering global health issues and reporting internationally would be useful, but isn’t mandatory.
