Well is looking for a news editor to assign and edit daily stories about health and wellness, working with reporters to produce explanatory journalism on relevant breaking news. The scope of this coverage is large — it includes covering scientific developments in fields like mental health, nutrition and fitness, physical health, diseases and conditions and jumping in on news events whenever there’s a health angle.
As news editor, you will be able to connect the dots and spot coverage opportunities before our competitors get to them. You will be able to quickly make assignments, establish fresh angles on stories, and work in a variety of story formats. This role requires a meticulous and conscientious editor who can become well-versed in Times style quickly, and is able to ask questions or catch errors in reporting on deadline. You should have a thorough grasp of covering scientific studies, a track record of breaking news, and the desire to be the go-to source for a health-obsessed audience.
Responsibilities:
Monitoring the news and trends related to health and wellness
Conceiving of fresh and compelling news angles
Collaborating with visual editors on assignments
Adhering to The Times’s editorial standards
Working with reporters with varying levels of experience to elevate their output/skill sets/writing
Being an idea machine
Supervise one reporter
Basic Qualifications:
7 + years as an editor covering news and/or health
Experience in a news organization
Proven track record of producing best-in-class health journalism
Passionate about health, wellness and service journalism
Well-organized and highly skilled in editing a variety of story forms
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior management experience

The annual base pay range for this role is between $115,506.56 and $125,000.00.
