The Paris News, a 4,500-circulation three-day-a-week newspaper in Northeast Texas, is seeking a savvy managing editor to lead the newsroom and help us continue to tell the stories of the people of the Red River Valley. Our candidate will be an enterprising journalist with knowledge of AP Style who is committed to producing and editing well-told stories from straightforward local government reports to enterprise, feature, investigative and special projects. The right person for this position also will oversee our social media accounts and website with a focus on digital first reporting. Page design is a necessary skill for this position, so a knowledge of InDesign is a must.
The primary responsibilities for our Assiatant Managing Editor include:
Help Mgr. Editor Overseeing organization and deployment of resources, including maintaining the editorial department news budget and online calendar.
Help ME Directing, collaborating with and coaching reporters in storytelling and in concise writing, so information is reader friendly and attractive.
heko ME Exhibiting strong editing skills, excellent news judgement and a superior ear for tone.
Help ME Assigning stories.
Help ME Editing stories to newspaper and AP style and for accuracy — don’t just fix grammar and punctuation. Make stories better.
Designing attractive pages.
Meeting deadlines.
Help ME Overseeing the newspaper’s online presence by ensuring daily stories are posted to the website, that the E-Edition appears correctly on print days, and stories are shared to social media (delegate duties, as necessary).
Help ME Planning special projects.
Help ME Serving as editor of our monthly magazine, Paris Life.
