QR Reporter

New Posted 5 February 2024 | Myrtle Beach, SC | The Post and Courier

The Post and Courier, South Carolina’s premier news source, is seeking an aggressive reporter to spearhead our coverage of breaking news in the Myrtle Beach area. The emphasis for this role will be on growing our audience reach through quick-response coverage in one of the country’s fastest-growing areas.

This beat goes beyond traditional public safety coverage. This reporter will work closely with an experienced team of journalists to stay on top of the day’s most pressing stories — and there is never a shortage of stories on this beat. This community sees hurricanes, wildfires and floods. It’s also the state’s busiest tourist destination, so this reporter might cover a bike rally one day and a tornado the next.

In a market with three television stations and two other newspapers, there is a need for deeper coverage that stands out from the pack. We’re seeking an innovative journalist whose stories will go beyond news releases and delve into the lives of those affected by these events.

Along with reporting breaking news and enterprise pieces, this journalist will also seek to tell stories in other ways, including short-form, vertical video. As readers increasingly consume video for news and information, our reporters aim to expand our digital presence with mobile-first storytelling.

This position reports to the local editor who oversees coverage in Horry and Georgetown counties. To be successful, the reporter will need the background and skills to not only stay on top of breaking news but also cultivate sources that allow the reporter to lead breaking news coverage in a competitive market.

If you are hired, you will join an ambitious, Pulitzer Prize-winning culture where talented journalists have the opportunity to pursue the best work of their careers, limited only by their ambition and determination.

The Post and Courier is privately held and is investing in its journalism. We began expanding across the state in 2020, seeking to fill a void in news deserts or areas where local news coverage had withered. We now operate Post and Courier newsrooms in multiple South Carolina cities.

We are a passionate, dedicated, digital-driven news organization and seek someone who shares that journalistic passion and commitment to excellence.
