Criminal Justice/Courts Breaking News and Enterprise Reporter

We’re seeking a curious, hard-charging reporter who’s a self-starter with high ambitions and strong storytelling skills. We are reinventing how we cover public safety and criminal justice/court issues in Northern California, and we are searching for someone with great passion for the topics with a proven track record for developing a strong network of sources – among lawyers, court officials and administrators, public defender’s office and the prosecutor’s office, not to mention national criminal justice experts. We want to go beyond arrest records and public documents (although they’re an essential part of this beat, too) and cover the county, state and federal court system here through the lens of equity, as well as understanding the trends, the causes behind the crimes and the legal consequences that follow.
