Sporting News is searching for freelance associate editors to help build out and scale a new affiliate and commercial editorial team. This hands-on role will be responsible for editing, publishing, and updating content to ensure SN delivers an accurate, compelling, best-in-class experience for a highly intent-driven audience.
We’re looking for organized, detail-oriented editors who can blend a strong knowledge of all North American sports, a fundamental understanding of SEO best practices and sharp business acumen to drive results.
Hourly rates are determined by volume of assignments though expected pay range is on par with $25.00 - $30.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
THE PROJECT
Help manage editorial budget for all OTT affiliate content in North America
Adhere to all established SEO guidelines and best practices with planning and editing
Edit written content for accuracy, style, and grammar
Update published content to ensure all SN affiliate articles remain fresh, reflect ongoing news cycle and offer best-in-class user experience
Coordinate writing assignments along with affiliate and commercial management
Analyze data and Google trends to maximize audience and engagement
Actively participate in daily team meetings with ideas for enhancing SN’s affiliate offering
Help develop ways new product enhancements to drive engagement and conversion
Track performance against key metrics to inform ever-evolving affiliate content strategy
DO YOU HAVE THESE ESSENTIALS?
3-plus years of digital sports media experience
Mastery of writing clean, concise copy
Elite editing skills to improve a story and communicate why changes were made
Strong knowledge of SEO tools and best practices
Savvy news judgment with the ability to quickly react and adjust with live content
Sharp business and marketing acumen
Understanding of user journey and how to best attract, engage and convert a reader
Comfortable working efficiently in a fast-paced, high volume news environment
Proven knowledge of most major North American sports, and a willingness to learn others outside your comfort zone
Not Essential But Great If You Also Have
College degree in journalism or a related communications field
Content marketing and/or social media marketing experience
Experience people managing or leading a content production team
