They should be confident working across print and online platforms to ensure The Telegraph has the best US coverage. The Senior US Reporter must be comfortable filing stories to tight deadlines, running live-blogs on breaking news. They should also be confident writing longer news pieces, colour dispatches, features and analysis.
The Senior US Reporter works closely with the US Editor and the rest of the US team, as well as with foreign news editors and other news reporters and specialists across the Telegraph.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior US Reporter is expected to provide high quality, accurate coverage of US events and find agenda-setting exclusives.
They will be required to cover events such as elections, breaking live news events and court cases. They will be expected to travel around the country and overseas as necessary, filing from the road.
The Senior US Reporter should have a proven ability to develop contacts within government and civil society.
They will be expected to write accurate, clear and concise news stories in house style.
They will be expected to meet tight deadlines and to organise their schedule around the deadline demands of the newsroom.
The Senior US Reporter will be expected to run live blogs, responding to breaking news and regularly updating headlines and summaries.
The successful candidate will be required to present stories to the US News Editor and Foreign Editor and suggest lines for further coverage
They are responsible for ensuring stories are accurate and legally compliant.
They are expected to have an understanding of the stories which attract readers online and that readers and subscribers to the Daily Telegraph are interested in. Through their articles, they will help the company to reach its goal of attracting and retaining more subscribers online.
