In early 2020 we launched a US edition and have grown into a 140 staff business, hitting all traffic and revenue targets to become the fastest growing news site in the U.S.

We are now looking for a freelance sports reporter to pick up weekly shifts as part of our growing sports offering.

The ideal candidate has some experience in a similar role and is well versed in digital publishing, including SEO, social, and analytics. They will need to be able to source social platforms for stories and be comfortable writing exclusive and original content.

The role will mainly focus on US sports, namely NFL, MMA, MLB, NBA, and WWE. A working knowledge of European soccer is desirable but not essential.

The candidate will be part of a rapidly-growing team that will be with huge potential for personal advancement and a staff role.

The position will be based in News Corp’s Midtown Manhattan office, although standout candidates from across the US will be considered to work remotely.

The shift rate is $200 to $250 depending on experience.

The ideal candidate will be open to a flexible working schedule, with selected shifts during evenings and weekends to cover major sporting events.

Key Accountabilities:

To spot and produce traffic-driving stories ahead of our competitors.
To pitch new lines daily that encompass viral stories, emerging trends, and original takes.
You will need a good eye for visuals to ensure stories are always illustrated with the best pictures, videos, and graphics.

Key Skills and Experience:

Positive attitude and good team player
Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
Ideally 1-3 years of desk experience, but graduates considered
