Reporter, Markets

New Posted 9 September 2022 | New York, NY | The Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal seeks a dynamic reporter to cover U.S. financial markets -- a high-profile, fast-paced beat at the core of our newsroom. You’ll sit at the intersection of big themes that touch markets, economies and investors all over the world, and you should be eager to explain these dynamics to a general audience as well as sophisticated financial readers. Our markets reporters develop expertise across the financial landscape, and you should have the intellectual curiosity to take on stocks, bonds, commodities, currencies or whatever else is in the news. You'll develop areas of expertise depending on the team's needs and your interests. You should be eager to go big, telling stories that start conversations and set agendas for the decision-makers who read the Journal. But the job also requires nuance and attention to detail so we can cut through jargon, make sure we get everything right and boil down even the most complex topics. You'll write about short-term and long-term storylines in financial markets, bringing readers both news and analysis with urgency. You'll also use analytical skills and expertise to write authoritative and creative feature stories about the financial markets. The ideal candidate will have experience covering markets or a related subject; we will also consider candidates with a track record of scoops and enterprise work on other beats.
