During this period of rapid social and political change, when our coverage of race, multiculturalism and identity is expanding, The Washington Post is looking for an assignment editor to join the America desk and help lead this important journalism. The ideal candidate will have experience leading teams of reporters at various skill levels, as well as the ability to juggle daily news with ambitious enterprise. The America desk has a strong breaking-news mission, so applicants should also have a track record of deploying reporters on breaking stories and delivering crisp prose on deadline. This editor also will help oversee About US, a twice-weekly newsletter dedicated to sparking honest conversations about race, gender, sexual orientation, and other matters of identity. The ability to work collegially and effectively with others is essential: This editor will be part of a three-person editing team, and will be expected to collaborate with journalists across the newsroom to tell stories through words, video, photographs, data and graphics. The position is based in Washington.
