The Washington Post

Deputy Editor for The Lily
We are looking for an experienced, digital-savvy assignment editor who is comfortable working in a fast-paced news environment. The ability to move quickly and be flexible is critical. The ideal candidate will have strong news judgment, thrive on collaboration and have a track record of generating and executing smart, innovative and original story ideas with a premium on creativity and social strategy.

The deputy editor will oversee day-to-day operations and work with staff reporters on both quick-turn news and longer pieces. The ideal candidate will have an eye for what makes a good story, and the ability to spot issues and anticipate trends that are of interest to women in the United States and internationally. We want stories that lead the competition and reflect or contextualize the conversation. The deputy will be responsible for creating daily story budgets and working with other newsroom departments to ensure The Lily complements existing coverage done by The Post. The ability to cultivate a strong network of reliable contributors is requisite. Candidates must be able to work on stories across platforms, including but not limited to, the Lily Lines newsletter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat Discover. Previous management experience is a plus.
