The Washington Post is looking for a visual journalist to join its award-winning Graphics team as an assignment editor focused on News. This editor will assign and edit projects, lead team members in conceiving and executing interactives and visualizations off the news cycle and ensure that the work meets our standards. We are looking for a journalist who is insatiably curious and wants to share that curiosity with our audience. Successful candidates for this role will thrive in a highly collaborative, deadline-driven, creative environment and can give and take positive feedback. Applicants should have demonstrated the ability to lead and inspire others. Additional qualifications include a great interest in news events as well as the capacity to be imaginative and work quickly. Candidates should have a broad understanding of what producing graphics for a major news organization requires and be self-starters who can juggle more than one project at a time on deadline. The ability to employ unique approaches to visual storytelling along with an innate understanding of the power of graphics to communicate effectively in an increasingly visual media landscape is essential, as is proficiency in design programs, including Illustrator and Photoshop, and familiarity with front-end development and data analysis. This position will require some on-call weekend shifts.
