The Washington Post is looking for a multiplatform editor to shepherd the dayside operation of its News Service and Syndicate, a fast-paced team that edits and distributes Post, Bloomberg and Yomiuri Shimbun stories, photos, graphics, videos and podcasts to hundreds of media and non-media clients around the world. The team also distributes The Post’s syndicated columns and is part of The Post’s Multiplatform Desk. Candidates should have strong copy editing and multitasking skills, knowledge of style and attention to detail. In addition to editing stories, this person monitors what stories are publishing online, including which ones need updating, and chooses what content to move to clients. This person assigns stories to the News Service team for editing and distributing, helping colleagues assess content and photo rights. This position includes responding to client inquiries quickly and confidently, so strong communication skills are essential. The position involves overseeing corrections and reviewing the delivery site for errors or other issues. A desire to learn and an ability to master new skills are essential. This person must be a self-starter, able to work independently and prioritize tasks in real time; work quickly without sacrificing quality; and communicate collegially and effectively across a large, fast-paced newsroom. Candidates should have at least three years of editing experience at a mid-to-large-market news organization. A copy-editing test will be required.
