The Washington Post is seeking a visual enterprise editor to join the Business Desk to conceive and execute timely, memorable visual storytelling off the news, particularly in our core areas of technology and the economy. This is a new position that will report to the Business editor, who will be an active partner in promoting visually driven stories. The visual enterprise editor will oversee some long-term projects but will give priority to quick-turnaround pieces using formats that deliver information to readers in the most compelling way, either by bringing a human dimension to news events, offering an innovative take on a complex development, or quickly telegraphing the enormity of social change. This role is intended for a highly accomplished, collaborative visual journalist with a record of success working across disciplines to execute memorable integrated multimedia journalism. Excellent editorial and visual judgment are essential; competitive zeal is key, as is a high metabolism and a passion for breaking news. Candidates should have a strong background in visual reporting, with deep experience in video, photo, graphics or design, and should have at least five years of experience as an editor running a visual team. Someone with a talent for editing text for visual impact is preferred. This editor will oversee one full-time reporter and work frequently with other Business reporters, especially on the tech and econ teams, as well as with data, graphics, photo, video and audio editors whose responsibilities include Business news. This person also will work closely with assignment editors to identify story targets and build teams around ideas. The visual enterprise editor will oversee all aspects of the projects they lead, including text.
