The digital edition of the award-winning current affairs magazine The Week is looking for a story editor to join our team. The Week’s website selects the best news articles, features and opinion pieces from media outlets across the globe and weaves them together into comprehensive features and newsletters.
What you'll be doing…
As Story Editor at The Week Digital, you'll be editing website articles, newsletter content and social media posts, where accuracy and quality control are critical.
You'll also be assisting the U.S. executive and deputy editors—plus covering team members as needed, including the deputy editor, social media editor and editorial assistant—with fielding pitches, assigning stories, overseeing daily content production, giving feedback to writers, compiling and scheduling magazine content for the website, and organizing daily puzzles, quizzes and crosswords.
You'll be working with writers and other editors to implement The Week's unique multisource style across all digital products, building and editing daily and weekly newsletters and writing occasional articles as needed.
Experience that will put you ahead of the curve…
Excellent line editing, copyediting, writing, proofreading and organizational skills.
Track record of editing digital content and using content management systems.
Knowledge and understanding of U.S. and international current affairs, as well as an interest in everything from politics and business to science and culture.
Familiarity with The Week’s approach to news.
Ability to be nimble and flexible around changing deadlines and daily tasks.
Experience at a U.S. news publisher.
College degree, with journalism degree a plus.
