Our flagship daily metropolitan masthead, The West Australian, is eager to add an experienced sports reporter to its ranks. We are seeking a creative professional with a keen eye for detail and a genuine passion for sport and storytelling. You must be curious about the sporting world, enthusiastic, empathetic, and eager. To thrive in this role, you will have excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, including being flexible with your hours and the ability to turn around high-quality content in tight timeframes. You will also have a keen news sense and the gift of the gab.

About you

Strong writing skills;
At least three years’ experience as a sports or general reporter, with a proven track record of breaking stories;
A keen interest in sport, a sharp news sense and attention to detail;
The ability to work independently and as part of a team;
Flexible with working hours and deadline driven.

About the role:

Be involved in creating quality, accurate sports content for various platforms to keep our audience informed and entertained;
Cultivate a good catalogue of contacts in order to break stories;
Liaise with our network of reporters across the State to deliver comprehensive coverage that caters to all kinds of communities;
Adapt to a fast-paced and ever-changing work environment, often working under tight deadlines;
Be exposed to incredible opportunities;
Embrace flexible work hours, including availability for evenings, weekends, and occasional travel as required.
