Job Description
NJ Spotlight News, a multiplatform approach to local, in-depth journalism in New Jersey, is hiring a Digital Journalist to cover New Jersey’s Congressional delegation and the federal government as they relate to the state and its various communities.
The Digital Journalist will provide regular news stories, with an emphasis on enterprise news reporting, to NJSN’s digital and broadcast platforms, as well offer stories and support to a network of other newsrooms across the state—local, hyperlocal, and public media. Please note this is a fixed term role funded for 12 months. The position is hybrid and will be based in Washington, DC area.
Specific Duties And Responsibilities Include
Track and report on the federal government’s impact on New Jersey, its communities and its core issues;
Track and report New Jersey’s congressional delegation, including elections and related campaign finance issues;
Provide essential input and perspective for NJ Spotlight News reporters who cover issues including climate change, social justice and education;
As part of NJSN’s collaborative news efforts, respond to suggestions and questions from news outlets across the state with information from the federal level that helps them report on urgent issues affecting their communities;
Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates will have a commitment to journalism ethics, familiarity with NJ politics and issues, superior organizational, interpersonal and project management skills. Additional qualifications include:
A minimum of four (4) years of multiplatform reporting experience in a digital newsroom;
Ability to report and write news enterprise stories and present news content across social media platforms;
Video production and editing skills; Premiere is preferred;
Ability and willingness to work collegially and cooperatively in small-team environment
