We’re hiring a temporary Writer for our Parenting vertical, who will also write content for special projects on our Editorial team.

About our team and what we’ll build together

We’re looking for an experienced Writer for a five-month period to research, interview experts and talent, fact-check, and create new content. This is an individual contributor position and candidates must be comfortable working on multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment with rigorous deadlines.

Our editorial team is a collaborative group of journalists from a variety of media backgrounds, and we understand how to create high-quality journalism in theSkimm’s distinct voice. In this role, you’ll work with editors, writers, directors, and fact-checkers to create newsletter and article content across high-growth products.

This is a short-term, contract position to cover an employee’s parental leave from April to September 2024.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Working with the director and editor alongside the social team to develop a cohesive, cross-platform vision for parenting content
Writing content for various platforms. This will include pitching, researching, original reporting, expert interviews, and fact-checking
Building content in our CMS

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

3-4 years writing experience
Strong journalistic judgment with a specific eye for fact-checking standards
Experience in a fast-paced environment, with an ability to anticipate and respond quickly to change
A general interest in all parenting topics, and an ability to stay abreast of and interpret emerging studies and news about kids and parenting
An interest in writing topics that help millennial women solve problems,
Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
Experience with original reporting, including sourcing and interviewing experts to create authoritative, data-backed content that helps readers navigate complicated topics.
Experience crafting promotional packaging for content (think: email plugs, social posts, etc.)
Ability to self-motivate and be a team player across multiple departments
Ability to write in theSkimm's voice
Passion for theSkimm and its mission
Bachelor's Degree

WHAT WOULD SET YOU APART

Experience evaluating and/or reporting content performance
Experience implementing SEO best practices
Experience with developing new content types
Knowledge of parenting news and trends

The expected compensation for this role is $1,250 - $1,350 per week. We’ll consider a variety of factors when determining the offered base salary including an evaluation of a candidate’s skills, abilities, experience, location, market demands, and internal parity.
