Reuters is looking for an experienced and energetic journalist with outstanding news judgement and technological savvy to drive our breaking news coverage from South Asia at a time of wrenching change in the region. This is an action-packed leadership role, with unique challenges and rewards, on one of the world’s biggest and most complex stories. India offers a dizzying range of stories that can break at any time — from an accidental missile launch into the territory of nuclear-armed rival Pakistan to a mass uprising of farmers. It is also home to almost 1.4 billion people and a vibrant business landscape that includes some of the world’s most innovative startups and biggest conglomerates. Tensions are always simmering in South Asia, home to a quarter of humanity. India fights occasional border skirmishes with China, and relations with Pakistan are always on a knife edge. Afghanistan is the scene of a massive humanitarian crisis after the chaotic withdrawal of U.S. forces. And Sri Lanka could be the first country in the region to slip into default following the pandemic. The successful candidate will lead a team of journalists generating breaking news coverage across a full range of topics. Based in New Delhi, the South Asia Breaking News Editor will drive event coverage planning and monitoring of a wide array of sources, generating coverage across the story cycle, from news alerts and our first quick-hit stories on breaking news, to bigger updates on the top stories of the day.
