We are seeking a talented journalist and editorial manager to lead our team in Israel and the Palestinian territories – one of the most demanding yet rewarding jobs in the business. Based in Jerusalem, and also running newsrooms in Ramallah and Gaza, the successful candidate will ensure that our multimedia staff produces clear, sharp and insightful coverage across all asset classes, maintaining balance and accuracy at all times. They will have the experience needed to distill and analyze, with speed and clarity, the streams of information and opinion that wash over the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict. An accomplished writer and editor, the successful candidate will have to look for innovative ways to tell the story, working closely with colleagues across the region to build a robust and enterprising file. A core responsibility of the bureau chief is to develop and manage staff drawn from different cultures and languages, who operate in three very different, and sometimes hostile, jurisdictions. Sensitive diplomatic skills and sober leadership skills are vital, likewise a keen sense of responsibility for staff safety, working closely with editors and managers across the company to ensure that risk is carefully managed at all times.
