Reuters is looking for an experienced journalist to cover foreign policy as well as other political, financial, economic and general news in Turkey. Based in Ankara for a one-year contract, you will have excellent English and Turkish and the ability to write quickly, succinctly and accurately in English. You will also have the versatility, experience, reporting and editing skills to produce an agenda-setting multimedia file aimed at investors, professionals and our worldwide media clients. The job will require a deep understanding of Turkey’s complex foreign policy engagements, from military efforts to its delicate diplomacy between NATO, Russia and the Middle East. It will involve a steady output of spot coverage, exclusive news, and deeply reported, revelatory features. Working closely with colleagues in Istanbul and foreign capitals, you will cover Turkey’s diplomatic efforts and domestic political shifts as President Tayyip Erdogan faces his toughest election contest in two decades in power. The job also covers a range of topics from Erdogan’s and Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu’s comments, to central bank policy statements, to FX movements in the Turkish lira. A willingness to travel at short notice, and the temperance to deal with sometimes obstructive officialdom, are essential.
