Salary: £55,000 - 65,000, depending on experience
Times Higher Education (THE) is seeking an ambitious editorial leader for its fast-growing Campus platform, to head-up a team commissioning and curating the best ideas, insights and professional practice in global higher education.
The Campus editor will be responsible for building on three years of rapid growth for an exciting editorial offering, launched in 2021 to complement THE’s award-winning news output.
Its international reach expanded further with the acquisition by THE of the US-based Inside Higher Ed, giving Campus a unique opportunity to serve audiences in universities across the world.
With content written by higher education professionals for an audience of their peers, within content streams covering a wide range of university activities, Campus has developed a strong following and built a network of more than 60 partner institutions spread across the world. In its next phase, it has enormous potential to continue that growth across a range of editorial formats.
This is a senior editorial position, reporting to THE’s editor-in-chief, and we are looking for someone overflowing with enthusiasm, energy and drive, with an innate ability to lead and manage a team of commissioning editors, and the confidence to develop and implement new editorial ideas.
About us
Times Higher Education was founded in 1971 and, from its roots as a UK policy magazine, has developed into the world’s leading source of higher education news, analysis and data. Headquartered in London, it reaches an audience of around 30 million academics, higher education professionals and students every year. In 2021, THE launched Campus alongside its news offering to provide a space for higher education professionals to share their expertise within their own areas of professional practice, covering universally relevant areas of focus such as the digital transformation of higher education and best practices in university teaching. It has its own dedicated editorial team who work closely with contributors, commissioning, editing and setting the platform’s editorial agenda, as well as participating in events, webinars and podcasts.
Higher education is a hugely rewarding area to cover, and as one of the fastest growing industries globally, THE has ambitious plans to continue to extend its reach and influence.

Who you are
We are seeking an editor with proven ability to lead and inspire an editorial team, and to build and develop a relatively new platform as part of a globally respected media organisation.
Candidates will ideally have knowledge of higher education and the issues that university staff face in their day to day work, however first and foremost we are looking for someone overflowing with editorial ideas, an unerring ability to spot the opportunities to reach and serve our audience, and the ability to take full responsibility for Campus and to grow its reach and influence.
You should have a clear vision for how Campus can evolve to serve this audience, the role of SEO and different digital formats, and how Campus can most effectively work with and alongside the news teams at THE and its sister title, the US-based Inside Higher Ed.
You will also be ready to take on other aspects of the editor’s role, managing an editorial team and working constructively with colleagues in commercial roles to support the business plan behind Campus.
You will be confident in public speaking and representing Campus at events in the UK and internationally, as well as hosting webinars and our monthly podcast.
To be considered, please submit a CV and covering letter. This role is based in London (hybrid working).
Closing date: 23:59 21st January 2024
Please note: We will be reviewing applications as they come in, so if you are interested do not wait until the deadline to apply.
