The Times is looking for a US Business Correspondent. The role is based in New York.
Your role: The US Business Correspondent is responsible for covering businesses, markets and UK-based businesses operating and expanding into America for both the digital editions and the paper.
As well as news stories the US Business Correspondent you will also be expected to write features and opinion pieces.
Applicants should have a strong background reporting and writing on business.
Day to day you will:
Pitch agenda-setting US business news stories, features and comment ideas to the business desk and plan how these are shared and promoted online
Write stories in a distinctive and engaging way that meets the brief from the commissioning editor
Demonstrate an understanding of what works best for digital, offering content that is truly distinctive
Continuously build and maintain excellent contacts in the US
Write with authority and command the respect of our readers
Represent The Times and The Sunday Times on radio, television and other media - especially our own stations
Plan, pitch and deliver long-term projects and investigations
What we’re looking for from you:
Experience writing for a national newspaper, magazine or news website
Applicants should have a strong background reporting and writing on business.
Keen attention to detail and meticulous fact-checking
Good understanding of audience data and SEO techniques to maximise search results Able to work autonomously and to strict deadlines
Excellent presentation skills and able to communicate succinctly and effectively A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issue
