Join us as a paid summer intern and gain practical experience and have a great time working alongside reporters and editors in our newsroom.
Our company: The Tri-City Herald is one of 30 news organizations in the McClatchy Company. We’re a Washington state news and information company, with our newspaper, tricityherald.com and other products on different delivery platforms.
We serve the cities of Kennewick, Richland and Pasco in Southeast Washington -- where ground-breaking science meets international agricultural production. Our region has a diverse, growing metropolitan area that enjoys the sunny outdoor recreation offered around the Columbia, Yakima and Snake rivers.
The summer internship/core mission:
Our first goal is to educate and train aspiring journalists in the principles and rigors of the profession.
Second is to bring new voices to our newsroom to give us fresh perspectives.
Third is to put you to work – you will write stories, take photos and videos and work with social media while you learn. Interns learn how to cover breaking news and how to develop audience-centered trend stories.
Fourth, this can be a try-out. McClatchy interns have moved on to become reporters, editors and publishers.
The program: The internship is 10 weeks, and 40 hours a week. Schedule could include nights/weekend hours.
