The 360 Reviews Assistant Managing Editor, Insurance is responsible for managing the insurance editorial team, including, but not limited to, home insurance, auto insurance, pet insurance, and life insurance. They implement content strategy and manage day-to-day publishing for transactional pages and evergreen features. The ideal fit for this role has a burning desire to create high-quality, effective content with our readers’ best interests in mind.
The Assistant Managing Editor provides guidance for editorial team members, oversees projects and manages the insurance team’s editorial calendars, and content output per editor. They routinely collaborate with an enthusiastic group of team leaders, product managers, research analysts and SEO analysts. This position reports into the VP of Content of 360 Reviews and is based in our Washington, D.C. or New York City office. This position is also open to U.S.-based remote workers.

Manage a team of senior editors, editors, other editorial staff over video conferences, emails, and instant messages, ensuring all deadlines and business goals are met.

Ideate and implement content strategy (for new content and updating legacy content), working with editors, SEO analysts, data analysts, product managers and team leaders.
A hunger for studying the insurance competition and coordinating strategy across multiple projects and media types.
Stay abreast of new trends, best practices, and Google algorithm updates as it relates to home insurance, auto insurance, pet insurance, and life insurance.
Work closely with the SEO department to help shape content. Ensure editorial teams are carrying out SEO best practices while maintaining quality.
Manage editorial calendars for multiple insurance projects, and provide day-to-day team support as needed.
Assist with hiring, training and ongoing coaching (from editing, to content ideation and strategy, to general SEO best practices, and more).
Partner with editorial leaders to develop team editorial guidelines for insurance. Monitor content to ensure it meets brand principles and standards of top-quality, error-free work, and that content is consistent across segments.
Use and review spreadsheets, tables, sets of data, and methodologies to be sure we are displaying the most accurate, helpful, and easily digestible information to our readers.
You should definitely have:
Minimum of 8 years of professional editing experience for a major insurance or personal finance website similar entity, inclusive of a minimum of 3 years of experience managing staff editorial teams.
A deep understanding of the insurance market, proven track record of implementing strategy and creating insurance content, as well as how to help answer a reader’s question and/or intent.
Expertise in SEO best practices within the insurance space and demonstrated experience writing and/or editing for SEO.
Experience with SEO tools like SEMRush, Searchmetrics, Google Suite and Google Analytics.
Proficiency managing multiple projects simultaneously and staying flexible while consistently helping your team meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Journalism or related degree or equivalent experience
Expertise with writing, fact-checking and editing skills.
Expertise and prior experience using AP style.
Utmost attention to detail.
Excellent communication, time management and organization skills.
A strong ethics philosophy and a desire to do the right thing for consumers and search engines alike.

In New York City, the anticipated base salary for this position is $80,000 - $110,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, interview performance, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
