General Summary:
UMass Boston recently launched a new brand campaign with a fresh and modern creative and visual style. As we continue to build our brand story, we seek to continue to elevate our brand voice in all our marketing channels.
UMass Boston is looking for an experienced editor/content writer to help improve the effectiveness of our marketing materials. The ideal candidate will have a passion for writing and possess strong editing skills.
The editor/content writer will play a critical role in upholding the quality of our written content by reviewing and editing various types of content, including but not limited to articles, marketing materials, event-related communications, and website content. The editor/content writer will work closely with our content creators, writers, editors, and designers to maintain consistency, accuracy, and adherence to style guidelines. The incumbent will maintain contact with departments and offices, prepare manuscripts, and collaborate with university editorial and design staff.
The editor/content writer will also work with the Creative Services team to help develop the brand story through written content, primarily marketing copy.
Examples of Duties:
Develop and write copy for university website (umb.edu), various university publications, while working collaboratively with designers, marketers, and colleagues in other campus departments.
Edit, proofread, and optimize copy for print and digital publications.
Review and correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors.
Ensure consistency in writing style, tone, and formatting.
Check for factual accuracy and ensure content aligns with style guidelines.
Adhere to established content guidelines, style guides, and brand voice.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, advertising, or a related field with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in communications, advertising, or journalism.
Exceptional grammar and writing skills. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
Experience in writing for marketing campaigns or established publications.
Proven experience as a content writer, with a portfolio of high-quality written work.
Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style or experience using an in-house style guide.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with individuals at all organizational levels.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
