The UCSF Division of Geriatrics seeks to recruit a full-time Social Media, Website, and Communications Specialist to support Dementia Care Aware, a multi-year, multi-site, statewide initiative aiming to improve the lives of people living with dementia, and the people who support them, by rapidly improving the ability of primary care for underserved populations to assess and care plan for people living with dementia.

Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, the Social Media, Website, and Communications Specialist will support the promotion and socialization of the program using existing communications channels. Projects will include updating the DCA website to keep content up-to-date and drive program engagement, sourcing and creating content and assets for social media, newsletters, website, and other communications channels, ensuring all content and assets meet accessiblity requirements, and managing general promotional communication channels to ensure information is reaching our target audience at the right place and time.

The Social Media, Website, and Communications Specialist is expected to work closely with many members of the team. The Director of Marketing and Special Events will provide the Social Media, Website, and Communications Specialist direction with guidance and support on projects and deliverables related to social media and website, and will be a main point of contact for subject matter questions. The Social Media, Website, and Communications Specialist will work closely with the Dementia Care Aware Program Specialist to understand how to align the website with operational program needs such as implementation and toolkit development.

The Social Media, Website, and Communications Specialist will report directly to the Director of Operations for daily management support. The position will be able to work independently to translate program goals and initatives into assets to be delivered via various communications channels and will be able to use content creation and communication programs (such as wordpress and bananatag) and will posess the analytical skills to identify needs of the program as it relates to commmunications and reflect on data trends to course correct work as needed.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

The Division of Geriatrics’ work is grounded in a deep commitment to and respect for older persons. We are specialists in aging. Our expertise is in optimizing the health of older individuals. We work in the community and on virtually every UCSF campus – Parnassus, San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, Mission Bay, and UCSF Center for Geriatric Care. The Division has over 130 employees including faculty, volunteer clinical faculty, fellows, staff, student interns and volunteers. Dementia Care Aware, is a state-wide initiative for the Department of Health Care Services led by UCSF’s Program Directors. Dementia Care Aware is a multi-year, multi-site, statewide initiative aiming to improve the lives of people living with dementia, and the people who support them, by rapidly improving the ability of primary care for underserved populations to assess and care plan for people living with dementia. The program is specifically focused on improving dementia care for Medi-Cal recipients and thereby reaching underserved patients living with dementia, such as those who are non-English speaking or are experiencing adverse social determinants of health.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area and 3+ years of related experience and / or equivalent experience / training.
Knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications.
Knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively direct technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications.
Knowledge of the organization, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices, infrastructure, and a strong knowledge of current affairs, and issues in higher education and / or health sciences.
Solid skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans.
Knowledge and skills to advise and consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to the target and / or broad general audiences.
Solid written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills.
Knowledge of location protocols and channels for communication internally and externally.
Prior experience with social media and/or marketing; experience with or comfortable learning video and creative software (Adobe Creative Suite (i.e. Indesign and Premiere), DaVinci Resolve, Canva).
Working knowledge of common organization and other common computer application programs. e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Demonstrates ability to use discretion, sound judgment and maintain all confidentiality, as well as ability to adhere to data security and HIPAA requirements.
Proficient in Google Suite, Smartsheet, Microsoft Teams, Dropbox, Google Analytics (or other similar software).
Previous experience using project management tools and software, website and video management and managing social media platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

One or more years of experience in, or equivalent time spent in coursework in communications and marketing.
Experience creating materials for populations with limited literacy and/or limited health literacy.
Experience conducting market research.
