Join VOA’s award-winning press freedom desk, reporting on the global challenges and issues affecting media freedom and access to news. Based at VOA’s headquarters in Washington, the successful candidate will excel at covering breaking news, writing to video, producing TV and radio packages and reporting on in depth features for an international audience. The position reports to the Press Freedom Editor in VOA’s main news center but the successful candidate will also be assigned to work in collaboration with VOA’s 47 language divisions to produce news content for web, radio and TV. Assignments can range from spot news about an arrest or deportation to enterprise pieces on journalist safety, disinformation, repressive laws or threats to news gathering, the work of media in exile and solutions journalism initiatives. The multimedia reporter needs to be versatile: the role may require shooting, editing and reporting, and completing post-production work, or working with a video editor to produce packages. The ideal candidate will regularly pitch stories, research background material, establish and maintain contacts, and attend events or briefings as directed.
