Editor/General Manager

Wakulla County is located in the Big Bend region of Florida. The community has classic southern charm and is located just outside Tallahassee, the state capital. The Wakulla News is a weekly publication that serves the community and we are looking for the right team leader to join us as the Editor/General Manager.

A qualified, motivated, and organized self-starter is needed. Duties will include writing and developing the news content of the newspaper. The editor will develop a strong source network among the traditional government agencies and throughout the community.

Essential Functions & Duties

•     Write and edit stories

•     Edit content for audience interest, clarity, quality, adherence to AP style

•     Grow the roster of high-quality contributors across the community

•     Manage office, expenses, and stay within financial budget

•     Write accurate, compelling, and balanced stories

•     Cover local events, meetings, and other activities, as well as write feature stories.

•     Develop and maintain beat sources within the community and gain thorough knowledge and understanding of community issues.

•     Write at least 5 stories a week.

•     Practice fair and balanced reporting, check facts, spelling, grammar, and sources.

Management experience required.
