Want to be a part of an exciting local news startup in West Los Angeles and the cities that make it up?
We're looking for sports fans and/or those with experience covering local/high school sports stories who can:
Cover the Varsity-level sports scene across boys and girls athletics in West Los Angeles, and the school districts/leagues that make it up
Bring to life the rivalries and big game matchups
Write dynamic profiles of star athletes and coaches in the area, looking in particular for stories of students and coaches of diverse backgrounds
Cover Santa Monica College and West L.A. College and their athletes/coaches
Cover UCLA and Loyola Marymount University (LMU) sports and its athletes/coaches
Articles affecting athletics in general
Social movements in athletics, e.g. trans athletes, compensating college players
Stadium news affecting So-Fi Stadium or the L.A. Clippers' new Intuit Arena being built now in Inglewood
Until greater funding can be secured, we will PAY PER ARTICLE (W-9/1099):
$50 -- Attend and write up big games/rivalry or in-league games
$75 – Features (1,200-1,800 words) on unique subject, coach/player/team profile
$100 – Exclusives/Scoops that fit our subject guidelines
$100 – Editorial on a subject affecting athletics, or the business of athletics (slamming the NCAA and the new conference shuffles always works)
Points of Note for Applicants
Westside Voice is seeking one reporter matching the above interests and subject areas. There will be a monthly cap of $1,000
Candidates from diverse backgrounds, differing abilities, and women are most strongly encouraged to apply.

You MUST live in the area to do the job. No long-distance or remote reporting
All articles must be pitched/discussed with the Publisher. Westside Voice will try to create as much of a newsroom environment as possible through regular Zoom meetings and occasional in-person workshops.
All articles will be the property of Westside Voice but belong to the reporter’s portfolio. In other words, you can’t do the same article for us and another publication.
If we are happy with your work and enthusiasm toward our effort and vision, we are happy to serve as a reference for you when seeking full-time opportunities with other employers, be they writing endeavors or something else entirely.
