Digital Producer (Temporary)

GBH News is transforming into one cohesive, audience-focused, multiplatform news organization that tells the most interesting and distinctive local stories of the day which are infused and informed by the diverse communities we serve. We are among the fastest-growing local news providers in Greater Boston and draw on the talent of a multiplatform newsroom that includes GBH 89.7, Boston’s Local NPR; GBH 2 public television; and digital reporting. Our goal -- through in-depth, high-quality journalism -- is to inform, educate and enlighten our audience and build a collaborative newsroom culture.

JOB OVERVIEW

The Digital Producer will be responsible for editing news content to be published on GBHNews.org and social media, as well as producing their own original material for GBH News’ platforms. While the Digital Producer specializes in digital storytelling and editing, this role calls for a multiplatform thinker who can creatively connect our journalism from audio, video and other media to our digital audiences.

RESPONSIBLITIES

Edit write-ups from our radio and TV show teams

Copyedit and fact-check reported stories, craft headlines, and report original stories for our Greater Boston audiences.

Monitor breaking news and our own programming and respond accordingly while working closely with the digital and social teams, as well as other newsroom editors and producers.

Schedule: M-F, 9am-5pm

SKILL SET

Solid news judgment and journalistic ethics

Strong writing and copy editing skills

Demonstrated effective and professional use of social platforms including Instagram, YouTube, and beyond

Familiarity and comfort with content management systems and an eagerness to learn the ins and outs of ours

Familiarity with transcription services and the ability to quickly turn audio from an interview into a compelling web piece with photo or interview video

Working knowledge of AP Style

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

1-3 years of experience in a newsroom environment

Experience working in a fast-paced news environment.
