The GBH Archives establishes the policies and procedures for the access, acquisition, intellectual control, and preservation of GBH’s physical media and digital production and administrative assets. The Archives also offers production organization of archival materials from projects start up to shut down, research services, rights clearances, and licenses GBH stock footage.
GBH and the Library of Congress steward the American Archive of Public Broadcasting (AAPB), an initiative that preserves and makes accessible significant historical content created by public media. To date, the AAPB has digitized and preserved more than 150,000 public television and radio programs and original materials from over 435 stations and producers. The entire collection is available for research on location at GBH and the Library of Congress, and more than 95,000 programs are available anywhere in the US in the Online Reading Room at americanarchive.org.
JOB OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the Associate Director/AAPB Project Manager, the Outreach and Social Media Specialist for the American Archive of Public Broadcasting (AAPB) in the GBH Archives will be responsible for enhancing AAPB's communication and outreach efforts, in particular via methods such as overseeing AAPB’s social media content development, organizing webinars and attending industry events to share AAPB’s work and successes, guide strategic outreach efforts around AAPB’s crowdsourcing platform FIX IT+ and Wikipedia editing, and overseeing communications and engagement with the AAPB’s Education Advisory Committee.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate and partner with the Outreach and Communications Strategist on outreach campaigns and activities, implementing such strategies to drive significant engagement on the AAPB website and other platforms, to reach 1 million visitors annually
Create engaging content and run AAPB social media platforms to significantly increase engagement, followers, and subscribers.
Guide strategic outreach efforts around AAPB's crowdsourcing platform FIX IT+ and Wikipedia editing in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
Partner with GBH events staff, volunteer managers, and digital and social producers on outreach implementation and promotional activities.
Organize bi-monthly AAPB webinars to share and promote AAPB's work and successes and to educate the public on the archival materials available in the archive.
Attend conference and other industry events to share and promote AAPB’s work and successes and to network with other professionals, including operating and engaging with conference attendees at AAPB exhibit booths.
Produce AAPB’s monthly newsletter to ensure timely and relevant content dissemination, in partnership with the Outreach and Communications Strategist
Promote AAPB resources such as exhibits, special collections and primary source sets through ongoing outreach campaigns via methods such as social media platforms, webinars, and the newsletter.
Lead communications and engagement with the AAPB’s Education Advisory Committee to ensure alignment with AAPB's goals and objectives.
Effectively monitor, evaluate, and report on impact of communications and outreach activities to inform future strategies and decision-making.
Other tasks as time permits and priority dictates that builds AAPB and GBH Archive audience.
SKILL SET
Experience managing social media accounts, analyzing metrics, and creating reports.
Experience working on targeted outreach campaigns to diverse audiences.
Demonstrated experience managing webinars and other event planning.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.

Knowledge of the American Archive of Public Broadcasting, media preservation, or archival work is desired.

Ability and willingness to travel for work when needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field required. Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in social media content management, outreach, or marketing.
