Writer, Crypto and Fintech

New Posted 17 August 2022 | London, United Kingdom | WIRED

We don't know yet whether crypto is going to take over the world or bring it crashing down, but either way, WIRED is here for it. We are looking for a writer based in Europe to round out our coverage with an obsessive focus on web3, blockchain, tokenomics, DeFi, DAOs, NFTs, layer 2 (or 3, or 4?), altcoins, memecoins, stablecoins, unstablecoins, and whatever crazy thing gets invented next Tuesday. OK, OK—much as we like to make fun of crypto, we take it seriously, and so will you. You might have been reporting on it for a while, or you might be a more traditional tech, business or finance journalist. Either way, you’re excited to cover the tech world’s fastest-growing… um, let’s say “movement” rather than “industry,” knowing that wherever it goes, it’s going to be one hell of a ride. You’re gripped by the technical and cultural arcana, but you have a battle-tested immunity to bucketfuls of jargon and dreamy-eyed visions; your job here isn’t to write for other people in the crypto bubble but to make the average reader understand what’s going on, why they should care, and how it will affect all of us, for better or worse. Similarly, while you delight in getting scoops about scandals, meltdowns, takedowns, and takeovers, you’re not here just for the circus of it all; you’re genuinely curious about the minds and motivations of the people involved and what will endure after 99 percent of today’s ventures have become worth less than the paper their white paper was printed on. You don’t need to follow the twists and turns of every rug pull, hack, or death spiral; you do need to be able to discern the larger trends they point to for the future of the technology, and its knock-on effects on everything from social movements to the environment to digital culture. That means you’ll also be looking beyond crypto to the broader world of fintech innovation, including such trends as buy-now-pay-later and challenger banks.
