The Center for Workforce Inclusion is recruiting for a Communications Specialist position in the National Park Service’s (NPS) Experienced Services Program (ESP). The program is designed to connect experienced workers, age 55 or older, with fulfilling and challenging opportunities at national parks and program offices that protect, conserve, and preserve our nation’s valuable natural, cultural, historical, and recreational resources.
This remote position will support the National Park Service’s River, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program (NPS-RTCA) by developing informative, engaging, and inspiring social media content, articles, and publications meant to increase public understanding and support for the program.
Role and Responsibilities:
This involves:
Social Media - Write, edit, schedule, and monitor content for Facebook and potentially other social media platforms using Hootsuite. Work in close collaboration with the editor to develop a social media strategy and calendar that aligns with program goals. Measure the effectiveness of communications content through analytics and identify opportunities to improve online engagement.
Writing and Editing - Write and edit articles, guides, and conservation and outdoor recreation planning documents related to NPS-RTCA projects. Writing will entail collecting, and reviewing the accuracy of, information through research and interviews with project managers and partners. Work in close collaboration with the editor to ensure all written content follows the program’s editorial style.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
The successful candidate must be age 55 or older; possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as communications; significant years of related experience; familiarity with Hootsuite and AP Style; experience in researching, interviewing, and writing; comfortable with working independently and meeting agreed upon deadlines; strong attention to detail, creativity, and critical thinking; access to personal computer and reliable WiFi for video conferencing that supports using MS Teams is required (work-from-home position); proficient in MS Office products and familiarity with website platforms.
Hours & Compensation:
Part‐time position working an average of 20 hours per week @ $50.00 per hour.
