Newsroom Developer

New Posted 4 November 2019 | New York, NY | WSJ

The Wall Street Journal is seeking newsroom developers to join its Strategy team. There are newsroom developer positions in three new departments being created: Young Audiences, a cross-disciplinary department that will create a media-agnostic digital magazine aimed at an audience in their 20s and 30s; New Audiences, a department that will create new products that are of interest to audiences the Journal is seeking to grow; and the WSJ Innovation Department, which is a cross-disciplinary department focused on nimble experimentation and short-term projects that create new features or products tied to our journalism.

The Journal’s strategy team is an incubator for new technologies, audience growth, community and news innovation. The team includes half a dozen new major initiatives that will be led by a full range of journalistic talent -- writers, video journalists, graphics designers, editors, product managers, engineers, designers, data scientists, artificial intelligence experts and more -- in a lively, collaborative project to discover new offerings of journalistic value. The newsroom developers are essential partners throughout these new initiatives. They will work closely with newsroom leadership as well as the Journal’s product, design and engineering departments. There is room in these roles to develop both journalism skills and engineering skills, and career paths from these jobs can lead in multiple directions.
