The HedgeNews Africa South Africa Single-Manager Composite ended 2022 up 7.08%, while the FTSE/JSE All Share Index rose 3.58% on the year and the All Bond Index added +4.2% as global markets took a battering.
By category, South African market neutral and quantitative funds were the best performers, adding a median 7.81%, according to our figures, while South African multi-strategy funds gained 7.18%. Long/short equity and fixed income funds delivered median gains of more than 6% each.
At individual fund level, there were wide-ranging returns as the South African equity market outperformed global indices, and both fixed income and equities managers faced tests of fortitude.
