Each year, the Excellence Awards celebration attracts hundreds of prominent business leaders to recognize the people and companies that have demonstrated unique vision, innovation and achievement in support of our region’s economy and small to mid-size business community.
For over 35 years, the Chamber has recognized the small and mid-size businesses who have demonstrated unique vision, innovation, and achievement through the annual Excellence Awards. These businesses are the economic engine driving not only Greater Philadelphia’s economy, but all of America.
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the fight for social and racial justice through the challenges of fighting social injustices, we have never been prouder as a Chamber to see members across our 11-county region step up in big ways to support their local communities. We’ve had the honor of sharing these stories of our members through our Inspiring Stories communication. The small and mid-size business community, in particular, has gone above and beyond their standard operations to support our region in this time of need. Their excellence has truly never been brighter. Each Friday since April, we have shared Inspiring Stories from our members and now it’s time to find and recognize the most exceptional of these stories.
That’s why we are introducing Inspiring Excellence: Honoring the Resiliency of Small to Mid-Size Businesses.
As an extension and virtual reimagination of our annual Excellence Awards, Inspiring Excellence shines spotlights on the small and mid-size businesses who have made a difference in our community during these unprecedented times. With input from the Excellence Awards Committee, the Chamber chose 10 organizations to recognize whose stories have inspired our members, such as manufacturers shifting their production lines to produce PPE; agencies offering pro-bono services to minority-owned businesses to raise diverse voices in the community; employees coming together to donate to health care workers; and so on. With input from the Excellence Awards Committee, the Chamber chose 10 organizations to recognize at a virtual gathering and celebration in November.
In 1982, the Chamber created the program known today as the Excellence Awards, Honoring Regional Businesses. The awards showcase the impact and vital role that small to mid-size businesses play in the overall economic development of the Greater Philadelphia region. Award winners set themselves apart from the competition and are outstanding representatives of the diversity of our region’s business community.
Each year, businesses are recognized for their creativity, vitality, stability and relevance. Winners are nominated by their regional business peers based on their demonstrated commitment to the advancement of the business community. Equally important in selecting winners are civic involvement and responsiveness, corporate responsibility, employee recognition and concerns regarding service issues.
Over the years, the scope of the Excellence Awards has grown with the help of the Excellence Awards Committee. The committee has created new initiatives and categories, increased involvement in the nomination process, and established criteria for measuring and defining excellence.
